HE NAMED ME MALALA with World Affairs Council in Atlanta

On March 31st, 2016 HE NAMED ME MALALA was screened at Georgia State University Honors College Auditorium. The screening was supported in partnership with the World Affairs Council of Atlanta. Ambassador Charles Shapiro, President of the World Affairs Council of Atlanta, welcomed the fully packed gathering of almost 250 attendees.

A dynamic panel discussion followed after the screening. Ali Dadpay of Clayton State University introduced Karin Ryan, Senior Policy Advisor on Human Rights and Special Representative on Women and Girls from the Carter Center and Noor Abaddy from the Islamic Speakers Bureau in Atlanta. The panel was moderated by MALA’s President, Zainab Zeb Khan.

The importance of addressing girls’ education and development were central to the dialogue. Girls are an important resource for global development, but those living in developing countries do not reach their full potential because they do not receive a proper education. Audience members engaged in an interactive discussion with panelists in regards to removing barriers toward schooling for girls, improving female enrollment and attendance of secondary and tertiary education, as well as continuing efforts to improved girls’ access to primary education.
