MALA Deputy Director Ahmed “Flex” Omar presented the award with the following remarks:

Congratulations to Rasheed Al-Nozili, publisher of the Yemeni American News, for receiving MALA’s inaugural Community Builders Award in Journalism.

Rasheed Al-Nozili is a tireless and passionate advocate for the Yemeni American community in Michigan and all over the United States. Yemenis have been coming to the U.S. for more than a century, but in recent years they have been planting stronger roots, raising their profile, opening upscale restaurants and running for political office.

The Yemeni American News, founded by Rasheed Al-Nozili in 2007, is a monthly newspaper published in Dearborn, Michigan, covering the Yemeni American community in the United States. The newspaper strives to publish news, research, and studies that are related to the Yemeni American and the Arab American communities in both English and Arabic. The Yemeni American News highlights individual stories of Yemeni Americans who symbolize success and exemplify positive contributions for their respective communities in the USA. Similar to MALA’s mission, the Yemeni American News focuses on stories that highlight triumph through adversity and the pursuit of the American Dream.

MALA is honored to recognize Al-Nozili’s work.
